Superb 1954 Bowman
Ted Williams
This was the last Bowman issue of Red Sox legend Ted Williams. Most likely as a result of contractual problems, card #66 featuring Ted Williams was withdrawn early from the 1954 set, and subsequently replaced with card #66 featuring Jimmy Piersall. This created one of the most famous post-war Hall-of-Famer rarities. This card of Williams has been intensely sought after by collectors for decades.
The example offered is a strong NM/MT+, bordering on MINT, specimen. It is very nicely centered with light creamy borders, squared-up corners, a sharply focused image of Williams, radiant original gloss, and bright vibrant coloration. This is one of four examples graded NM/MT+ 92 by SGC, with just one higher.
