Consign to a Legacy Auction
Legacy Sports Rarities conducts three catalog auction events per year. Each sale features several hundred lots of important rarities, iconic Hall-of-Famer items, and finest known sportscards. Also featured are many moderately priced, collector-oriented lots. So, whether you have a $1,000,000 T206 Honus Wagner card, or a $500 Mickey Mantle card, we'd be glad to include your consignment in one of our upcoming auctions. Legacy Sports offers a full suite of value-added services to our consignors. Here are just some of the advantages of selling through a Legacy auction.
- Impeccable Reputation Combined with World-Class Knowledge: Our principal, Greg Bussineau, has been involved in the sports collectibles industry since 1980. He has been a full-time dealer since 1982. During that close-to 30 year period, he has developed an impeccable reputation for ethical dealings. He has accumulated world-class knowledge of the sports collectibles marketplace, both its products and participants. He has helped to assemble some of the hobby's greatest collections, bought and sold many of the most famous and important items in existence, and was instrumental in the development of a standardized grading scale for PSA - the country's first major independent grading and authentication service. Greg Bussineau is responsible for nearly every major part of the auction process. He personally reviews every consignment to ensure that it meets our quality standards. He researches and does the catalog write-ups for every item in our auction. He personally consults and speaks with interested bidders on all items in our auctions.
- In-Depth Research and Detailed Cataloging: Items featured in a Legacy auction are thoroughly researched and cataloged in as much detail as possible. Special emphasis is given to establishing provenance, or the ownership chain, on important pieces. Our goal is to provide as much relevant information as possible to prospective bidders.
- Aggressive Marketing: Legacy Sports is very aggressive and pro-active in marketing its auction events. In addition to email communications and personal consultations, all active Legacy clients receive full-color auction catalogs. Additionally, extensive advertising is conducted through various trade magazines and internet websites. Rest assured, when you consign an item to a Legacy auction, collectors will know about it.
- Blue-Chip Clientele: Legacy Sports maintains a client list of nearly 4,000 customers. This list of blue-chip buyers has been accumulated over a period of close to 30 years in the business and includes virtually every major collector and dealer. Our extensive client list is second-to-none, and insures that your consignment is presented to all the right people.
- Assistance with Grading and Authentication: A very important component to achieving maximum selling prices for your consigned items is to have them authenticated and graded by one of the major independent services, such as Professional Sportscard Authenticator or Sportscard Guaranty. We can assist with the process by helping to organize and then submitting items on your behalf to the appropriate service.
- Unmatched Attention to Detail: During the entire auction process, we pay unmatched attention to detail. First during the process of researching and cataloging the auction lots, then throughout the production and mailing of the catalog, the marketing of the auction, the staging of the auction, and then to the post-auction payment collection and mailing out of consignor checks. Rest assured, every single detail – large or small – will be handled with great care.
- Open Communication: One of the most important aspects in creating a positive auction experience is to ensure that there is an open and active line of communication between the consignor and auctioneer. When you entrust Legacy Sports to sell your sports collectibles, you can be assured that any questions you might have during the process will be answered promptly. Any input or thoughts you have regarding any aspect of the auction will be welcome.
- Full Insurance Coverage: All consignments are fully insured for market replacement value with Collectibles Insurance Services, from the time they arrive in our possession until the time the consignor is paid.
- Reasonable Reserve Allowance: Typically, starting bids on lots in a Legacy auction approximate 30 – 50% of market value. In certain cases, for a particularly rare or desirable item, we will allow the consignor to set a "reserve" price, below which the item will not be permitted to sell.
- Single Owner Auctions: If you have a collection, or a particular set of sportscards, that reaches a certain value threshold, we have the ability to produce a dedicated auction for a single-owner consignment. We invite you to call us and discuss if you think this is an option you'd like to explore.
