This card of Giants Hall-of-Fame great Christy Mathewson is one of the key issues within the legendary T205 Gold Border set. The set was produced in 1911 and includes over 200 different players and variations. For years, collectors have been attracted to the T205 issue because of the challenge in finding high grade examples, as well as the stunning design artwork and beautiful gold-leaf border.

Christy Mathewson was one of baseball’s greatest pitchers. Over his 17 year career, he compiled a total of 373 victories - tied for 3rd highest of all time. He amassed a record of 13 20-win seasons, including four in which he won 30+ games. In 1936, Mathewson was one of the first five players enshrined in the Hall-of-Fame.

The example offered is one of the finest T205’s - of any player - I’ve ever seen. It is absolutely spectacular. The card has phenomenal, near perfect centering. The gold leaf borders are among the cleanest I’ve ever seen on this issue - no nicks, no chips, no marks. The interior surface of the card is essentially flawless. Matty’s image is crystal-clear and well-focused. All four corners are 90 degrees sharp, with just a speck of white showing on a couple of the tips. And the color and sheen are as rich and vibrant as the day this card rolled off the press.
